Job Description

Ironwood Cancer & Research Centers has beautiful state-of-the-art integrated Cancer and Women's Centers, with locations strategically located throughout the Valley. Each one provides a superior cancer care environment with a full spectrum of cancer related services for patients. Our multi-disciplinary team approach includes surgical oncology, medical oncology, radiation oncology, women's centers, diagnostic imaging services, social service support, nutritionist, integrative services, and genetic counseling.

Overview:  The role of the Surgical Medical Assistant is a key member of the practice and provides clinical expertise to ensure all patients receive high quality; efficient care. The medical assistant performs delegated medical functions under the direction of a provider, authorized practitioner or RN in the delivery of care.

Schedule:  Full-time, day shift working 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supports providers in the delivery of patient care services and office operations.
  • Prepares examining areas and patients for examination, procedure or treatment by a provider or authorized practitioner.
  • Obtains vital signs and records patient’s medical history and other relevant data.
  • Assists provider with patient examinations, treatments and in-office procedures.  Must possess excellent sterile technique.
  • Administers injections or assists with treatments/procedures under direction of authorized practitioner.
  • Prepares and maintains supplies and equipment for treatments, including sterilization.
  • Obtains prior authorizations and schedules testing and treatments.
  • Answers telephone calls and other general office functions.
  • Must be willing to travel between our East Valley offices. 

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Stable work history, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to use office equipment, computer, and typing is essential.
  • Easily adaptable to a computer environment.
  • Must be able to obtain vital signs and take instructions from Physicians.
  • Must be able to relate well to patients.
  • Ability to effectively communicate.

Education and Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • Previous surgical experience highly preferred. 
  • National MA Certification a plus (or must obtain within 90 days).
  • Reliable transportation required.
