Job Description

Ironwood Cancer & Research Centers has beautiful state-of-the-art integrated Cancer and Breast Centers, with locations strategically located throughout the Valley. Each one provides a superior cancer care environment with a full spectrum of cancer related services for patients. Our multi-disciplinary team approach includes surgical oncology, medical oncology, radiation oncology, breast clinics, diagnostic imaging services, social service support, nutritionist, integrative services, and genetic counseling.

Overview: We are looking for a qualified and experienced Director of Research.

The Director of Research is responsible and accountable for the daily operations of the research program of the Practice. Responsible for contract review, study budget review negotiation and overall financial activities of the department. Assures compliance with all regulatory requirements and standards of good practice (GCP) related to the conduct of clinical research.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Principal Investigators in recruiting studies and assessing their feasibility for the Practice.

  • Supervises staff, including Research Nurses, Clinical Research Coordinators and other support staff; coordinates quality and customer service activities.

  • Ensure documentation of competency of staff through feedback and annual evaluations with input from appropriate team members.

  • Assure compliance with all regulatory requirements related to human subjects research, including but not limited to the regulations and guidelines of the Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act; and accepted standards of good clinical practice (GCP).

  • Promote clinical excellence through applied clinical knowledge, leadership, team recommendations and research utilization.

  • Ensure timely reporting and follow up of all patient incidents.

  • Assure that policies and standard operation procedures (SOPs) are complete, accurate, and up to date and reflect current operations.

  • Review, negotiate, and approve all study budgets with the assistance of the company controllers.

  • Monitor all study funds and revenues assuring that sponsor invoicing and sponsor payments or collections are done in a timely manner.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Demonstrate effective problem-solving, conflict resolution and negotiating skills.

  • Demonstrates time management, effective organizational and delegation skills.

  • Demonstrate leadership and teamwork in relations with physician members of the team.

  • Excellent communication and team building skills, demonstrated organization and work management skills, critical thinking skills.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or other formal professional/technical preparation in relevant discipline. Master’s degree preferred.

  • Minimum of 3 years’ Management experience in a research setting.

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in clinical research, finance related to research, compliance in the field of research.

  • Nursing degree/experience highly desirable.
